Jon Scheyer is one of the best recruiters in college basketball, and he will once again have Duke positioned to threaten for the No. 1 class in the 2027 cycle.

The Blue Devils hold just one commitment so far in the 2027 class with 5-star wing/forward Kager Knueppel, the younger brother of former Duke star Kon Knueppel. But Scheyer's priorities for this next class have taken shape in recent weeks.

With AJ Williams' reclassification and three new offers being sent out last week, Scheyer is casting a wide net in a competitive market. After signing four 5-star recruits in 2026 - Cameron Williams, Deron Rippey Jr., Bryson Howard, and Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje - Scheyer could have Duke in a position to match, or even top, that number in this class.

Let's take a look at the dream scenario for the Blue Devils in the 2027 cycle that would assuredly land Duke at the top of the composite recruiting rankings for the third time in four years.

Duke's dream 2027 recruiting class would include these 4 additional commitments

Beckham Black

Scheyer has offered two guards in this class: Beckham Black and Adan Diggs. It's been pretty obvious that Black is the priority, though teams like Arkansas, USC, Texas, and others will put up a substantial fight for the 5-star out of Orlando.

Scheyer got a front-row seat to watch Black during the Nike EYBL circuit, and he has been turning up the heat in his recruitment ever since.

Duke hasn't yet got a visit set up for the fall with Black, but that feels inevitable. If Scheyer can get him on campus, it will increase the chances that Black ends up in Durham.

AJ Williams

Williams got an early offer from Duke while he was still a member of the 2028 class as one of two players - along with Colton Hiller - to earn it. Now, Williams has reclassified into the 2027 class and is still one of the top players available.

Duke has been seen as the favorite for Williams for quite some time, but his reclassification could alter those plans. The Blue Devils recently offered 5-star DeMarcus Henry, who plays the same position as Williams, as a potential backup plan if Williams starts trending elsewhere.

He's still a top priority for Duke at this point.

Asa Montgomery

Duke got in late on Asa Montgomery with an offer going out to the talented Georgia native last week, but he's the exact type of player that fits perfectly next to Boumtje Boumtje and brings the energy and effort that Scheyer always covets.

Montgomery's game has grown in recent months, and he now projects as a player who could exceed the 3-and-D projection he's carried for most of his recruitment. That now appears to be the floor, which still makes him one of the nation's most coveted prospects.

Lewis Uvwo

Insiders believe Duke has a substantial lead for 5-star center Lewis Uvwo, in large part thanks to his connection with former Blue Devils big man Khaman Maluach. There's a reason that Uvwo is the only true center the Blue Devils have offered thus far.

He would be the perfect replacement for Patrick Ngongba, assuming he heads to the draft after his junior season in Durham as expected.
