Jon Scheyer and Duke hold just one commitment so far in the 2027 class with 4-star forward Kager Knueppel. They've also extended offers to 5-star guards Beckham Black and Adan Diggs, along with 5-star rim-protecting center Lewis Uvwo.
The reclassification of 2028 No. 1 recruit AJ Williams into 2027 changed the board for Scheyer and company, but his recruitment will be ultra-competitive. He's the top target, and Duke hopes to land one of the two 5-star guards, with the preference expected to be Black. Uvwo is the top big-man priority, and the Blue Devils are seen as the obvious favorite in his recruitment.
That would be an unreal recruiting class as is if Scheyer locked down that group of four. But he may not be stopping there. On Wednesday, Scheyer extended another offer in the 2027 class to an intriguing wing.
4-star Asa Montgomery, the No. 28 overall player in the composite out of Powder Springs, Georgia, reported an offer from Duke:

Asa Montgomery has an intriguing skill set that would fit in well with Duke
Montgomery is a supremely talented player who knows how to strike the balance between being "the guy," and settling into a role and doing the little things to win games for his team.
In the EYCL, he averaged 27.9 points and 10.2 rebounds on impressive shooting splits of 54/34/76. He was the star of the show.
But Montgomery also played for USA basketball this summer alongside Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, and settled into his role as a complementary piece of the puzzle. He brought the energy, playing defense, rebounding, and filling in the margins as Team USA went on a dominant run to the gold medal in the FIBA U17 World Cup.
That's a better indication of what he could do as a college freshman, and it's obvious why Scheyer would be intrigued by that skill set. He's listed at 6-foot-6 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, and could be a natural replacement for Dame Sarr, assuming the rising sophomore makes the leap that so many expect, and he jumps to the NBA after next season.
Montgomery is a high-level athlete who knows how to take advantage of the spacing on the floor with smart cutting to the rim. He's got a high basketball IQ that would fit in nicely in Durham.
Adding Montgomery to a recruiting class of Knueppel, Black, Williams, and Uvwo would be a dream run in 2027 for Scheyer and would undoubtedly lock up the No. 1 recruiting class in the cycle. That might seem like wishful thinking, but after Scheyer signed four composite 5-stars in the 2026 class, it doesn't feel all that unrealistic.
