Jon Scheyer's latest offer in the 2027 class has North Carolina fans nervous. And for good reason.
Scheyer is arguably the sport's best recruiter, and with Michael Malone looking to get the ball rolling in Chapel Hill, the last thing he needs is to have to compete head-to-head with Duke for one of the top recruits in the country.
But that's his new reality after Duke extended an offer on Friday to 5-star SF DeMarcus Henry, one of North Carolina's top targets in the cycle.
Henry had already announced a top eight in his recruitment, but an offer from the Blue Devils could change that. It already has UNC fans nervous.

Scheyer doesn't lose many head-to-head battles on the recruiting trail. If Duke ultimately makes Henry a priority, then everything could change in his recruitment.
That's a big if, though. The Blue Devils are casting a wide net in the 2027 cycle, and it remains to be seen how much they prioritize Henry.
Duke already has a commitment from wing/forward Kager Knueppel and has offers out to AJ Williams and Asa Montgomery.
Williams' recent reclassification changed things in his recruitment and Duke's priorities for the class. Williams was always seen as Duke's top target in the 2028 class before he decided to jump up a cycle into 2027.
Ideally, Duke probably lands one of Montgomery or Deng Ngor, both of whom can play that stretch four role in Scheyer's system. Then, Duke rounds out the class with one of Williams/Henry, one of the two point guards on their radar - Beckham Black or Adan Diggs - and then big man Lewis Uvwo.
There's also 5-star wing CJ Rosser, originally from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, but Duke hasn't offered him yet for whatever reason.
In any case, Scheyer has the Blue Devils positioned for another elite class in the 2027 cycle. Duke has signed three consecutive top-two classes in the composite rankings, including the No. 1 class in 2024 and 2025. While Arkansas edged Duke in 2026, that's largely due to Barcelona big man Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje not being properly rated since he didn't play high school basketball in the States. There's a legitimate argument that he's the best player in the class.
Boumtje Boumtje was an early recruiting win for Scheyer over Malone. The Blue Devils and Tar Heels competed head-to-head for him, and he chose a less certain role in Durham because he trusted the process with Scheyer and company.
North Carolina will always be a threat on the recruiting trail as one of the biggest brands in the sport, but they feel uneasy about having to go head-to-head against Scheyer and Duke. As they should. It typically doesn't end well for the team on the other end.
