Jon Scheyer recently expanded his recruiting board for Duke in the 2027 class, extending a few new offers and casting a wider net.

The Blue Devils have a commitment from Kager Knueppel and have sent out seven additional offers in the 2027 cycle. One of the most recent offers went out to 4-star forward Asa Montgomery from Powder Springs, Georgia, and Duke immediately jumped toward the top of his list.

Montgomery has five visits lined up for the fall, taking trips to LSU, Florida, UConn, and Providence to go along with Duke. But it's Duke's positioning on his visit schedule that is the most intriguing. Scheyer and company will have a chance to make the last impression before Montgomery makes his decision.

Duke is the final visit scheduled for 4-star F Asa Montgomery

Montgomery brings the hustle and attitude that Scheyer has always coveted. He's shown the ability to be a nice complementary piece when surrounded by elite talent, like he was playing next to incoming Duke big man Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje with USA Basketball's U17 team this summer at the World Cup. But he's also shown a higher ceiling as a potential No. 1 option, something that makes him all the more intriguing as his recruitment heats up in the coming months.

Montgomery is listed at 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, and has the potential to be an impactful stretch four at the college level, with the athleticism to play as a 3-and-D wing, too. Montgomery's shot is still growing, and he hit 34% from distance during the EYCL while averaging over 27 points per game.

Montgomery is one of the younger prospects in this class. He won't turn 18 until next July. The upside is massive, but what he displayed while playing with Team USA shows that he's a guy who is willing to do the little things to win games, which is something that Scheyer always covets in Durham. It's also what will earn him quick minutes wherever he ends up playing college basketball.

Whether or not that is Duke remains to be seen. Will Scheyer make a significant push for him? The Blue Devils also recently offered 4-star forward Deng Ngor, with him and Montgomery likely being an either/or proposition. It might come down to each's visit to Durham before Scheyer decides who gets his focus.

Montgomery is set to take his visit on October 2nd, with Ngor coming to town two weeks later on October 15th.

Scheyer is also hoping to land either Beckham Black or Adan Diggs in the backcourt, elite big man Lewis Uvwo, and then one of the big swings on the wing with 5-stars AJ Williams and DeMarcus Henry, the top two targets.

Regardless of how it pans out, Duke fans are confident that Scheyer will once again reel in one of the top classes in the country.
