Jon Scheyer casts his Duke recruiting net wider with 2 new 2027 offers

Jon Scheyer is always stingy with the offers he hands out. Everyone wants a Duke offer, but not everyone gets one. Even elite prospects in every class don't pick up the coveted Blue Devils offer.

Scheyer decided on Friday to cast his net a little bit wider. Duke had sent out just six offers in the 2027 class to date, but that number rose to eight on Friday with two new offers going out.

First, Duke finally extended an offer to 4-star forward Deng Ngor, who recently announced the Blue Devils were in his top four schools without even yet having an offer. Scheyer remedied that on Friday:

Second, Duke officially threw their hat into the ring for 5-star SF DeMarcus Henry, potentially flipping his recruitment on its head:

Henry is the No. 3 overall player in the 247 composite for the 2027 class. Duke has been on the outside looking in on his recruitment, with programs like Arkansas, BYU, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Louisville leading the charge. But Duke throwing its hat into the ring could change everything for Henry, especially if Scheyer makes him a top priority and makes a significant push for the California native.

Henry's floor appears to be a player who is immediately impactful as a 3-and-D wing. He averaged over three stocks per game on the Nike EYBL circuit and shot 38% from three. But his game has grown immensely in recent months, and his ceiling is much higher than that. But the fact that his floor starts there is what makes him such an intriguing prospect.

It'll be interesting to see how much Scheyer decides to push here and if Duke can make up the significant ground on Henry's top contenders. The next step will be getting Henry to campus for a visit this fall.

Duke would seemingly be in good shape for Ngor if they decide to push. The fact that he listed the Blue Devils among his final four contenders despite not having yet received an offer at that point should tell you what he thinks of the program.

Ngor has a visit set up already on October 15th, the fourth of four official visits he'll take this fall. He'll see his other three contenders, Ohio State, Washington, and Florida, in the weeks before his trip to Durham.

How much they push for Ngor could depend on how things go with a couple of other top targets. I would think Scheyer would be deciding between Ngor and Asa Montgomery, who also received an offer this week, for that slot. That's especially true if the Blue Devils land either Henry or AJ Williams, who are probably also an either/or proposition in the 2027 class.

In any case, Scheyer has once again positioned Duke to land one of the top high school recruiting classes in the country in the 2027 cycle. That's not surprising. It'll be fun to see how it all plays out, but there's no anxiety about it playing out favorably.
