The 2023 Duke basketball recruiting class could have a Hollywood flare
By no means has Jon Scheyer closed the book on his 2023 recruiting class. In fact, he is looking to add to the top-ranked class in the country.
The Blue Devils are the leaders and heavy favorites for four-star center JP Estrella after he picked up an offer from the Duke head coach in early June and scheduled a visit for Durham in late July.
It is growing increasingly likely that Estrella will join the class that is comprised of five-star small forward Mackenzie Mgbacko, five-star power forward Sean Stewart, five-star point guard Caleb Foster, and four-star shooting guard Jared McCain.
However, Duke is also mulling the potential of targeting Mookie Cook in the Class of 2023.

Cook recently decommitted from Oregon and has been receiving interest from the top programs in the country at recent EYBL events this summer as he is ranked as a five-star prospect and the No. 5 player in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Joe Tipton of On3Sports reported that Duke was one of the destinations that Cook has been eyeing since his announcement along with Arizona, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Oregon, and the G-League Ignite.
Jon Scheyer and Jai Lucas watched the 6-foot-7 forward over the weekend in Kansas City but has not extended an offer to the Compass Prep (Ariz.) product.
Lucas was one of the lead recruiters for Cook while he was at Kentucky and is trying to carry that relationship to the Blue Devils although the G-League route appears to be the current favorite for the five-star recruit.
Mookie Cook could bring Hollywood flavor to Duke basketball program
Massive stars have come through the hallowed halls at Cameron Indoor Stadium in recent years but Duke has never had a movie star on its roster.
That would change if the Blue Devils extend an offer to Mookie Cook and he commits to the program.

Cook will be the star in the upcoming movie Shooting Stars as he portrays the younger self of NBA megastar LeBron James.
The movie premiers on Peacock, the NBC streaming service, in 2023 and there has been no timetable for the updated decision from Mookie Cook.
