The Duke basketball program will be looking for more magic from its head coach.

Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer is arguably the best recruiter on the planet.

The 34-year old has the ability to relate to the younger generation of players and the experience of what it is like to win as a player and an assistant coach at the biggest program in college basketball.

He also has this magic of landing verbal commitments from recruit when he gets them down to Durham for a visit.

Duke will be hoping its leader still has some of that magic up his sleeve for one more target in the Class of 2023.

Coveted Blue Devil target JP Estrella, a four-star center, from South Portland, Maine has booked a visit to Durham at the end of July.

Pro Insight recruiting insider Andrew Slater was the first to report Estrella’s visit to Duke which will be held July 31-August 2. The visit comes directly on the heels of a visit to Iowa from July 28-30.

Listed as a 6-foot-11 center, JP Estrella is ranked as the No. 56 player in the Class of 2023 and No. 2 player at his position, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, as he has already taken visits to Marquette and Tennessee.

Estrella, after playing at South Portland High School for three years, will be transferring to prep powerhouse Brewster Academy (N.H.) for his senior season.

Syracuse also appears heavily in the picture for the center.

Duke basketball pushing hard for fast rising prospect

Two 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for JP Estrella are logged for Duke as the Blue Devils have made the recruit its main priority in the Class of 2023.

Jon Scheyer already has the top ranked recruiting class in the country for 2023, which is comprised of five-star forward Mackenzie Mgbacko, five-star forward Sean Stewart, five-star guard Caleb Foster, and four-star guard Jared McCain.

The Blue Devil coaching staff, including Scheyer, got an in-person look at Estrella on Thursday afternoon in Georgia at the Under Armour Association Session III event to further solidify their commitment and interest in the prospect.

Duke has also extended an offer to four-star forward Xavier Booker but appears to be solely focused on Estrella.

Hopefully a trip to Duke is all JP Estrella needs to commit to the Blue Devils and join the loaded recruiting class coming to Durham in the summer of 2023, as Slater reported he hopes to make his decision before his senior season begins.
