Probabilities of Duke basketball players leaving: The 100 percent club

  • F – Theo John (Gr.)
  • F – Bates Jones (Gr.)

These two are simply out of eligibility following the end of this NCAA Tournament.

Theo John has brought a much-needed infusion of toughness and attitude to this Duke team. Although he’s averaging only 11.5 minutes and 2.9 points per game, he has served as the old-school enforcer type from hockey.

Mike Krzyzewski would do well to unleash John slightly more often in the next few weeks. After all, his death stares and hardnosed defense are enough to get under most big men’s skin.

Bates Jones remains buried on the bench with only 5.7 minutes per game, but he can give Paolo Banchero some valuable time as a reserve throughout the rest of March. With the guard-heavy lineups that the Blue Devils are sure to see in the Big Dance, Banchero will have to take some extra sprints. So keeping him fresh will be valuable.

The most important thing these guys bring, and perhaps the ultimate reason Coach K brought them to Durham in the first place, is they have postseason experience. And that’s something this squad sorely lacks.
