Duke basketball coaches eyeing ‘one of the hottest prospects in America’
By Matt Giles
A backcourt sensation has now caught the Duke basketball staff’s attention.
According to a tweet on Monday from Eric Bossi of 247Sports, the increasingly active Duke basketball recruiting machine has added its name to the growing list of programs that are expressing interest in Coppell (Texas) combo guard Anthony Black.
Of course, the Blue Devils are not alone. Evidently, Kentucky and Gonzaga have also recently reached out to the rising high school senior. Furthermore, Black holds more than a dozen offers and has upcoming visits on his calendar to Texas, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State.
Although Black is still only a four-star recruit in the eyes of most, Bossi made sure to note that the 6-foot-7, 185-pound potent playmaker is “one of the hottest prospects in America” these days. After scouting him on Sunday at the Pangos All-American Camp, the recruiting expert provided the following brief assessment:
“[Black] is in the conversation for a big bump in the edition of the 2022 rankings. His feel for the game and IQ…simply off the charts.”
Based on the available mixtapes, it’s abundantly clear to the average onlooker that he also boasts quick first steps, explosive bounce, decent outside shooting, and elite length. Plus, speaking to his impressive athleticism, it’s worth mentioning here that Black shines on the gridiron as well, to the tune of his five-star Rivals rating as a wide receiver.
Recapping 2022 Duke basketball recruiting ventures
Given Anthony Black’s skillset and measurements, it’s no wonder the multidimensional athlete has already skyrocketed almost 100 spots in the past six months to No. 58 overall as a hoopster on the 247Sports 2022 Composite. Naturally, with this rise in mind, it’s also no surprise that Jon Scheyer, who will become Duke’s head coach after next season, now has the talent on his radar.

Thus far, Westtown (Pa.) four-star center Dereck Lively is the only player in the class who has received an offer from Scheyer and his gang.
Lively is on tap to be in Durham for an official visit at the end of June alongside Sunrise Christian (Kan.) five-star small forward Mark Mitchell plus Wilbraham & Monson (Mass.) four-star power forward Kyle Filipowski. This weekend, though, the Blue Devils will host their first official 2022 visitor in Montverde (Fla.) five-star small forward Dariq Whitehead.
