Takeaway No. 3 in Duke basketball loss: A leader is needed

Who is the leader? There is no distinctive leader on this Duke squad. Tre Jones isn’t going to suit up and save the day when the team is in a slump offensively.

Jordan Goldwire has proven to be the heart and soul of the team thus far. However, does he have what it takes to lead this team full of freshmen? Matthew Hurt leads the team with 19.0 points per game, but does he have that spirit in him to lead this team?

As of now, there is no one that fits that mold. That said, a player can eventually evolve into that role for the Blue Devils. Hopefully, it is soon, as Duke needs a leader as fast as possible.

The Blue Devils have a lot of internal soul-searching to do before they can be brought up in the conversation among teams who are contenders for the national championship.
