Will a full-fledged superstar step forward to anchor the Blue Devil attack?

The 2020-21 roster is Mike Krzyzewski’s first since 2012-13 to lack a former top 10 recruit from a finalized 247Sports Composite. Yet considering the 2012-13 squad finished with more wins than all but two of the seven Duke teams ever since, this shared nugget must be a decent omen for 2020-21, right?

Not necessarily. The 2012-13 bunch had three polished seniors as full-time starters and leaders. Now, almost all the top candidates to lead the Blue Devils in any major statistical categories are underclassmen, including four of the six freshmen in Jalen Johnson, Jeremy Roach, DJ Steward, and Mark Williams plus sophomores Matthew Hurt and Wendell Moore.

While Johnson and Hurt may possess the most immediate star potential, each appears to enter the season with significant concerns, which we’ll get to here in some questions to come…
