Duke basketball success this season rests on answers to these 20 questions.
As is now the norm in Durham, more than half of the Duke basketball faces likely to regularly see the court are different from the previous season. And once again, pretty much all the top-shelf producers are gone, meaning a truckload of new faces must emerge to make up for all the lost production.
No longer around are NBA-bound Tre Jones, Vernon Carey Jr., and Cassius Stanley, the top three scorers for the 2019-20 Blue Devils. Add to that the departed trio of former veteran role players in Jack White, Javin DeLaurier, and Justin Robinson, who are now on various paths to carve out professional careers. Plus, Alex O’Connell skipped town on the transfer bus.
Of course, questions also abound concerning the entire college hoops season. Obviously, unlike this date in past years, the Blue Devils are still weeks away from tipping off their regular season (at home against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 25).
Sure, the unprecedented events of the current calendar year have posed some of the same challenges to all sports. Yet some specific concerns differ from sport to sport, team to team, and even player to player.
With all the new precautions and all the new faces, the questions seem countless regarding the 41st Duke squad under Mike Krzyzewski.
