Daniel Jones may miss Monday Night Football against Eagles due to injury
The former Duke Football quarterback Daniel Jones may miss the New York Giants’ next game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football due to an ankle injury.
New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur revealed on Wednesday morning that it is “very likely” that Eli Manning starts on Monday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles in replace of Daniel Jones.
The former Duke Football quarterback suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers and despite thinking it would be a non-factor, the ankle will sideline Jones for at least one game.

Jones did not miss a play in the loss to the Packers on Sunday due to the injury.
Shurmur compared Daniel Jones’ injury to running back Saquon Barkley‘s ankle injury that kept the Pro-Bowler on the shelf for three games.
The injury has been diagnosed as a “moderate high right ankle sprain” and Daniel Jones is in a walking boot.
Monday night would have been Jones’ second start on Monday Night Football, the first coming in a losing effort at home against the Dallas Cowboys. Monday also would have been the first time Daniel Jones played against NFC East rival the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jones replaced Eli Manning as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants in Week 2 and after winning his first two starts, Jones has lost eight straight games and the Giants are 2-10 with four games left to play in the 2019 season.
In his rookie season, Daniel Jones is completing 61.6% of his passes and averaging 237.7 yards per game while throwing 18 touchdowns this season and rushing for two more. However, Jones is experiencing troubles holding onto the football, throwing 11 interceptions and losing ten fumbles this season.
While injuries are never good, it’s possible that watching a veteran like Eli Manning will be beneficial for Daniel Jones as he was able to watch the first two games, then play in Jones, and now will be watching from the sidelines once again.
The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles kickoff at 8:15pm EST on Monday, December 9 and the game can be seen on ESPN.
