Eli Manning started for New York, but despite the usual “dress rehearsal” for the regular season opener, Manning and the starters did not last long on Thursday night.

The veteran completed 4-of-8 passes for 41 yards in just one series leading the Giants down the field for a field goal.

Jones played the remainder of the first game and the No. 6 overall pick was 9-for-11 for 141 yards, leading the Giants on one touchdown drive which ended with a Rod Smith one-yard touchdown run.

The Giants were able to hold on for a 25-23 win over the Bengals to move to 3-0 in the preseason.

Daniel Jones was in the news this week after an interview with Baker Mayfield was published by GQ where Mayfield said he was “mind-blown” the Giants took Jones with the No. 6 overall pick.

Mayfield said a day later that his words were taken out of context and used to generate headlines and clicks on the internet.

Jones didn’t seem to take much offense to Mayfield’s comments and Baker texted the former Blue Devil to clear everything up.

So far in three preseason games, Daniel Jones is completing 83% of his passes, over 23-percent higher than other first round quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins.

The New York Giants are still standing by Eli Manning as their starting quarterback for its Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

While starters do not typically play in the fourth and final preseason game of the season, it’ll be intresting to see what head coach Pat Shurmur does with Jones as the Giants travel to play the New England Patriots on Thursday, August 29 at 7:30pm EST and the game can be seen on NBC.
