On Sunday afternoon, Marcus Stroman returned to the mound on Sunday afternoon but the Toronto Blue Jays could not help out the former Duke Baseball star.

The last time Marcus Stroman was on the mound pitching in a competitive fashion was on June 29 against the Kansas City Royals.

In that game, Stroman only tossed 66 pitches in four innings, allowing four hits and three runs while walking two and striking out four.

The former Blue Devil was then named to his first All-Star game but a few days later it was announced Stroman would not make his next scheduled start or pitch in the All-Star Game due to a pectoral injury.

After not pitching in the first two games after the All-Star Break on Friday and Saturday, Marcus Stroman was back on the hill against one of the MLB’s best, the New York Yankees.

The New York native allowed a two-run single in the second inning and then after the Blue Jays tied things up in the fifth inning, a wild pitch where catcher Danny Jansen could not tag out Gio Urshela gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead.

The Bronx Bombers would add one more run against the Blue Jays bullpen, but the damage was done as Stroman’s record dropped to 5-10 on the season.

This was Marcus Stroman’s first start against the division rival Yankees and he pitched six innings, allowing seven hits and the three runs while striking out seven and walking two.

On the season, the former Blue Devil has a 3.25 ERA and has been in the conversation of many trade talks, including being a possible target for the New York Yankees.

The MLB Trading Deadline is on July 31 at 4:00pm EST and Marcus Stroman is schedule to make three more starts between now and then with the next start coming on Friday July 19 in Detroit against the Tigers at 7:10pm EST.
