After a dark three days, there is joy in the Duke Basketball fans as Mike Krzyzewski gives an update on the two freshman stars.

It looked dark for a while in Durham as freshman star point guard Tre Jones went down with what was diagnosed by Mike Krzyzewski as an “AC joint separation” and would be out for an “indefinite” amount of time.

However, the sun is starting to shine on Cameron Indoor Stadium as Coach K told Dana O’Neil in an interview with The Athletic that Jones would be back “sooner, rather than later”.

More from Ball Durham

Tre Jones was injured chasing after a loose ball on Monday’s loss to Syracuse after colliding with Frank Howard.

Jones stayed down on the court for several minutes and walked off the court under his own power, but the pain in his eyes was visible.

“I don’t know if it’s for this game or the next game, but it’s not going to be long term, where it’s a month or something. He’s going to be back,” Krzyzewski told O’Neil.

In the interview, Coach K would not rule out Jones for Saturday evenings major matchup with the No. 4 Virginia Cavaliers at Cameron Indoor Stadium, but he did state that it would be unlikely for Jones to play.

Krzyzewski also diagnosed the injury as “slightly worse than a grade one.”

Jones is averaging 8.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 2.1 steals per game in 29.3 minutes per game, while also averaging only 1.0 turnovers per game.

However, more good news was released in the interview with The Athletic, as freshman Cam Reddish will play on Saturday against Virginia.

Reddish was the hero last Saturday against Florida State, hitting the game winning shot with less than a second left on the clock, but as tip-off grew closer on Monday, Reddish did not play with flu-like symptoms.

The freshman wing is averaging 13.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, while shooting 38.2% from the floor and 35.8% from 3-point range.
