No captains have been selected yet for Duke Basketball this season but we are going to predict the player who will be granted with that honor.

Being named the captain of any team is a huge honor and being named captain of a historic program like the Duke Basketball team is an even bigger honor which is why Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski is taking his time with the decision.

It’s safe to assume that one reason why Coach K did not select captains before the Duke Canada Tour was because he wanted to watch his team play and see who would have a substantial role throughout this season.

Captains needs to play in order to show leadership on the court as well as off the court.

Duke’s captains over the pervious few year shave been Grayson Allen, Amile Jefferson, Matt Jones, and Quinn Cook.

One thing that all four of those players have in common are that there were all starters.

The problem with this Duke teams is that Coach K selects upperclassmen to be captains and the Blue Devils don’t have any upperclassmen that are returning who received significant playing time last season.

Tre Jones would be a great choice to be a captain, the point guard, who must be a leader on the court to orchestrate the offense and Coach K’s right hand man while on the floor, but as a freshman, Jones wouldn’t get the nod to be a captain despite still being a leader on this team.

After the three games in Canada, two upperclassmen have emerged as players who will be in the rotation this season, possibly in the starting lineup, and have been around for some big games while in a Duke uniform.

Javin DeLaurier and Jack White.

Javin DeLaurier was a sixth man player last season for the Blue Devils and although he only averaged 12.7 minutes per game, he looks poised for a breakout junior campaign.

DeLaurier could play an Amile Jefferson-like role on this team, aggressive and solid on the defensive end, a tenacious rebounder, and can be efficient on the offensive end when forgotten about by the opposing team.

The Shipman, Virginia native gives all of his effort each time he is out on the floor, something these young freshman need to see from an upperclassman so they will know that this is how you are supposed to play the game at this level.

As for Jack White, he was a pleasant surprise during the three games in Canada, showing major improvements to his three point shot as well as on the defensive end due to the muscle he put on this offseason,

While White doesn’t have the in game experience of DeLaurier, White could very well come off the bench to start the season and might be the spark off the bench that the Blue Devils need, due to his energy and hustle.

While there is still a lot of things to be decided before the Blue Devils take the floor in November, selecting Javin DeLaurier and Jack White as captains would be a very positive thing for this Duke Basketball team.
