1961 Cotton Bowl: The last one for a while
In his career at Duke, Bill Murray won seven conference titles, one in the Southern Conference, and six in the ACC. His tenure continued through 1965, but the 1961 Cotton Bowl was his final bowl game appearance.
The Blue Devils beat Arkansas 7-6 to finish the season at 8-3 and ranked No. 10 in the AP Poll. It took until the third quarter, but Arkansas scored first, on a punt return by Lance Alworth, but Dave Unser blocked the ensuing extra point attempt to keep the lead at 6-0.
Duke then answered with a touchdown drive in the fourth quarter that featured five completions from quarterback Don Altman to wide receiver Tee Moorman. The Blue Devils converted on the extra point and hung on to win.
This was ultimately the last time that Duke ended the season ranked in the AP Poll until 2013.
