One thing is for certain, Duke is a basketball school, but with Riley Leonard at quarterback in 2023, the Duke football program has started to get more notoriety. In 2022, Leonard led Duke back to a bowl game for the first time since 2018 with a win in the Military Bowl.

That was Mike Elko’s first season at the helm and Elko could be the man to turn Duke into a two-sport contender in the ACC and the country.

The Blue Devils have ended their season with a bowl game just 15 times in history with the first appearance coming courtesy of head coach Wallace Wade. The current stadium’s namesake led Duke to the 1939 Rose Bowl. Mike Elko has the most recent appearance, just last season.

Duke’s longest streak of consecutive bowl game appearances was four straight and came from 2012 through 2015 under David Cutcliffe.
