The Duke football program will be getting a visit from ESPN’s College GameDay.

A historic season is brewing in Durham, North Carolina with the Duke football team and the program landed another major milestone as ESPN’s College GameDay will be on campus this weekend for the first time ever.

The announcement came from ESPN last Saturday night, shortly before then No. 9 Notre Dame fell in agonizing fashion against No. 6 Ohio State, and its historic pregame show would feature the unbeaten Blue Devils against the Fighting Irish.

No. 18 Duke walloped lowly UConn on the road last week to improve to 4-0 on the season and rose one spot in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll.

The country was one play away from seeing two undefeated teams play under the lights at Wallace Wade Stadium as the Buckeyes scored the go-ahead touchdown against Notre Dame on a rushing play with no timeouts remaining and just one second left in regulation.

Heavy scrutiny has come down on the Irish, now No. 11 in the AP Poll, for only having ten players on the field for its final two defensive plays.

The College Football Playoff hopes of Notre Dame now hang in the balance as the team cannot afford to lose another game if it still has hopes of winning a National Championship.

However, Duke will be looking to send another statement across the country after its 28-7 victory over then No. 9 Clemson on opening night put the Blue Devils into the Top-25 and have not looked back since with its wins over Lafayette, Northwestern, and the Huskies.

Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman is familiar with the Blue Devils after his time at Wake Forest saw him battle Duke twice and while the outcome of the games were split, the veteran has completed 63.6-percent of his passes for 749 yards and six touchdowns in those two meetings.
