The Duke basketball program must find a way to land VJ Edgecombe.

Securing the commitment of VJ Edgecombe should be high on the priority list for the Duke basketball program, especially with the possibility of missing out on their primary guard target Dylan Harper.

The Duke coaching staff invested significant time and effort into recruiting Harper, hoping he would join the Blue Devils and become a cornerstone of the 2024 class.

While the Harper recruitment is ongoing, there are strong indications that Rutgers is currently the frontrunner with Kansas and Auburn lurking.

However, Duke fans can remain cautiously optimistic as the Flory Bidunga situation demonstrated that recruiting can have unexpected twists and turns.

While VJ Edgecombe may not be anticipated to replicate Harper’s role as the primary ballhandler, he brings a versatile skill set that allows him to transition if required seamlessly. His exceptional ball-handling skills enable him to operate effectively in both guard positions, whether facilitating the offense as a playmaker or contributing as a scoring threat while playing off the ball.

Notably, Edgecombe assumed the point guard role for his AAU team during the past spring and summer when elite point guard Mikel Brown was sidelined due to injury.

This adaptability and capability to excel in different backcourt roles make VJ Edgecombe a valuable asset for Duke’s basketball program and his experience as a primary ballhandler demonstrates his ability to step up when needed and contribute significantly to the team’s success.

As Duke continues its recruitment efforts, Edgecombe’s presence becomes increasingly crucial in bolstering the team’s depth and versatility.
