The Duke basketball program is in the mix for another 2024 prospect.
Jon Scheyer continues to put the Duke basketball program in the mix for Class of 2024 prospects as Tyler Betsey has included the Blue Devils in his Top-7 finalists.
Betsey, a 4-star prospect, is listed as the No. 37 player in the 247Sports Composite rankings, No. 6 power forward, and No. 1 player coming out of the state of Connecticut.
The announcement from the St. Thomas Moore (CT) standout marks the third time in the last two weeks that the Blue Devils have been included in the group of finalists for a highly touted front court player, joining 5-star center Flory Bidunga and 4-star forward Patrick Ngongba II.
Tyler Betsey also included UConn, Alabama, Cincinnati, Indiana, Creighton, and Villanova in the cutdown of his list.

Duke has not hosted Betsey in Durham for a visit but the coaching staff did travel up to Connecticut to complete an in-home visit with the 6-foot-8 forward in early April.
Betsey has taken official visits to UConn, Creighton, and Indiana in June and it still appears like the Huskies are the favorites to land the in-state prospect.
Tyler Betsey will take an official visit to Alabama on September and unofficial visits to Duke and Creighton later in the month. Villanova is the only school who has not hosted, or is planning to host, Betsey yet.
Duke basketball focusing recruiting assets elsewhere
In a previous interview with On3, Tyler Betsey gave a glowing remark of Duke and Jon Scheyer’s first season as the program’s head coach, “Jai Lucas, that’s my guy. I talk with him and Coach (Chris) Carrawell a lot.”
“They’ve shown me what all they have done with freshmen and the freedom they give their freshmen to play with. This year, for example, they started off rough, but they let their freshmen play through their mistakes. And those same mistakes those freshmen made at the beginning of the year, they weren’t making them in March.”

Betsey did say in that interview that he was planning on visiting Duke in September.
Duke has two commitments from recruits in the Class of 2024, 5-star forward Isaiah Evans and 4-star guard Darren Harris, while remaining as a finalist for prospects like Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe, Naas Cunningham, and Kon Knueppel.
At this stage in his recruitment, it seems like a longshot for Tyler Betsey to become a Blue Devil.
