The Duke basketball program landed good recruiting news once again.
The Duke basketball program extended a scholarship offer to VJ Edgecombe in early July and on Sunday afternoon he announced that the Blue Devils are among the final ten programs he is considering.
The talented 6-foot-5 guard from the Class of 2024 had impressive performances on the Adidas 3SSB circuit, the NBPA Top 100 Camp, and the Adidas Eurocamp, were he was named as the Most Valuable Player of the camp.
It comes as no surprise that Duke is one of the finalists considering the Jon Scheyer and staff seem to be recruiting him very hard.
Florida, Baylor, Alabama, Miami, Florida State, UConn, St. John’s, Michigan, and the NBA G-League Ignite are also in his finalists.
Duke has already landed commitments from 5-star forward Isaiah Evans and 4-star guard Darren Harris while the program is already a finalist for 5-star guard Dylan Harper, 5-star center Flory Bidunga, and 4-star forward Patrick Ngongba II.
Scouting report on Duke basketball recruiting target
VJ Edgecombe is an exceptional athlete, possessing agility and speed that translate into excellence across various aspects of the game.
He can play either guard spot and is a very versatile defender. His explosive plays and ability to create separation off the dribble make him a very tough cover to defend.
As a high-level finisher, Edgecombe consistently exhibits finesse, creativity, and the strength to convert at the rim. He excels as a standstill and spot shooter. The next step for him would be to use his shooting off the dribble more effectively as a weapon.
He does an excellent job of taking care of the ball and making plays. On defense, he’s an absolute terror. With his long arms, he excels at disrupting passing lanes and hounding the ball handler, effectively keeping his man in front of him.

Another thing that sets Edgecombe apart is the intensity and energy he brings to the game. His competitive nature is evident on both ends of the court, motivating his teammates to elevate their performance and setting a high standard for the entire team.
In translation, he is a good leader.
VJ Edgecombe fits the Duke mold with his mentality and will to succeed and win games, combined with his skillset makes him a very intriguing prospect for the Blue Devils.
With several offers to elite guards still pending, Edgecombe will likely let this play out and not rush a decision.
Expect to see him on campus for an official visit in the near future.
