Mike Krzyzewski had a viral reaction to the Duke basketball victory against Notre Dame.

Tuesday night inside Cameron Indoor Stadium was the return of Mike Krzyzewski to watch a Duke basketball game for the first time since he retired last April.

Krzyzewski attended a matchup between St. John’s and Providence on Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden before making the trip back down to Durham but the Hall of Famer was his stoic self as the Johnnies upset the No. 20 Friars.

Things would not change for Coach K on Tuesday despite being around a program he is much more familiar with.

Duke ended up in a battle with struggling Notre Dame due to a lackadaisical mentality, but the Blue Devils only led by one, 63-62, with 14.0 seconds remaining and Mark Mitchell shook free in the corner for a dagger 3-pointer.

Krzyzewski, showing much less emotion than he did while on the bench, looked very unimpressed with the game clinching shot.

Perhaps it was the old coach coming out of Mike Krzyzewski knowing that there was still 10.8 seconds remaining and the Blue Devils needed a stop, which they did not get, coming out of the timeout before getting too excited.

Nevertheless, it was interesting observing Coach K sit in Cameron as a fan and watching the Blue Devils secure a much needed 68-64 victory.

Former Duke basketball coach honoring assistant coach

Mike Krzyzewski was in the building on Tuesday evening to honor his former assistant coach, current Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey, who will be leaving the Irish this season.

Brey had initially announced his plans to retire at the conclusion of the year but told college basketball insider Jeff Goodman that his intentions are to continue coaching away from South Bend next season.

Krzyzewski and Mike Brey combined to win the 1991 and 1992 National Championships while in Durham and Tuesday was Brey’s last trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium as the head coach of the Irish.

Coach K presented the 23-year head coach of the Irish with a gift during Notre Dame’s shootaround.

It appears unlikely that Mike Krzyzewski will attend another Duke basketball game this season but the Blue Devils travel to New York to face Syracuse and longtime friend of Coach K, Jim Boeheim, on Saturday night (6:00p.m. ET, ESPN).
