Jon Scheyer got a surprise attack following his first Duke basketball victory.
The good vibes were flowing inside Cameron Indoor Stadium on Monday night as the Duke basketball season opened with a dominant victory over Jacksonville and head coach Jon Scheyer picked up his first official victory as the head coach of the program.
Scheyer guided a short-handed Blue Devils team, missing star freshmen Dereck Lively II (calf) and Dariq Whitehead (foot), to a 71-44 victory in part of the stellar showing from Mark Mitchell, Kyle Filipowski, Ryan Young, and Jeremy Roach.
“This is a place I’ve grown up in, playing, coaching, and to be here as a head coach, I was not going to be anywhere other than this moment right now,” Scheyer said following the game of his emotions prior to officially coaching his first game.

However, before he stepped to the microphone in his post game press conference his team hit him with a surprise attack in the locker room where they drenched the 35-year old with water.
“When people pour cold water on you, I went into shock a little bit for a second,” Scheyer explained of the moment inside the Duke locker room.
Duke basketball head coach hoping to create own path
The Duke head coach arguably has the most difficult task in the sport trying to follow in the footsteps of Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski and his five National Championships and 1,202 career victories.
One win down and only 1,201 more victories to go. No pressure.

“What an opportunity, what a moment,” Scheyer continued.
Jon Scheyer and this version of the No. 7 Duke Blue Devils (1-0) will look for its second victory of the season on Friday night (6:30p.m., ACC Network) against the University of South Carolina Upstate (1-0).
