Duke basketball announces jersey numbers for 2022-23 season

The Duke basketball team released its uniform numbers for the upcoming 2022-23 season. 

Summer workouts are inching closer for the Duke basketball program and the roster has finally be finalized.

The Blue Devils only have one key contributor from last year’s team, Jeremy Roach, returning for the 2022-23 campaign and he will retain his No. 3 jersey.

Jaylen Blakes, a sophomore from Blair Academy (NJ), is the only other scholarship player who remained with the program and will continue to sport the iconic No. 2 jersey.

Walk-on’s Stanley Borden and Spencer Hubbard will also retain their No. 52 and No. 55 jersey’s, respectively.

Duke lost Paolo Banchero, AJ Griffin, Mark Williams, Trevor Keels, and Wendell Moore to the NBA Draft while Joey Baker, Michael Savarino, and Keenan Worthignton opted to transfer out of Durham.

Theo John, a graduate transfer from Marquette, is the only player who graduated and is out of eligibility.

However, new head coach Jon Scheyer who quickly added high profile talent to his first Blue Devil squad, led by veteran transfers and the top ranked recruiting class in the country.

Jacob Grandison, the newest Blue Devil transfer from Illinois, will wear No. 13 while the other Big Ten transfer, Northwestern’s Ryan Young will sport the No. 15 uniform.

Kale Catchings, a guard from Harvard, will rock the No. 12 jersey and Max Johns, a walk-on from Princeton, wears No. 41.

Duke basketball freshmen with big shoes to fill in uniform numbers

Each jersey number within the Duke basketball program tells a story, some more recent than others but each current freshman will have a legacy to live up to in its new threads.

Dereck Lively II, the top ranked recruit in the country, will wear No. 1 for his likely only season in Durham while his five-star counterparts Dariq Whitehead and Kyle Filipowski will wear No. 0 and No. 30, respectively.

Four-star guard Jaden Schutt grabs the No. 14 uniform and the newest member of the recruiting class, Tyrese Proctor, will spot the No. 5 jersey.

However, the biggest surprise was five-star freshman Mark Mitchell wearing No. 25 this season which is retired for the iconic Art Heyman.

Duke will begin its season at home on November 7 against Jacksonville.
