Possible Duke basketball transfer target: AJ Green (UNI)

This name’s inclusion shouldn’t surprise Duke basketball fans as AJ Green has already been reported to have spoken to Jon Scheyer and the staff over the phone.

With Trevor Keels announcing his intentions to declare for the 2022 NBA Draft, Green has now likely skyrocketed to the top priority for the staff this offseason.

A two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, Green is virtually automatic from beyond the arc. He averaged 18.8 points per contest while shooting 38.8 percent from three last season.

Green could have even won a third MVC Player of the Year award if not for a hip injury that sidelined him for all but three games of the 2020-21 campaign.

His addition to next year’s roster would be welcomed, as Green could immediately slide in as a starting two-guard. His ability to shoot would complement nicely alongside Jeremy Roach and Dariq Whitehead, both very skilled slashers.

It’s also worth noting that Green has entered his name into the NBA Draft process, but a return to the collegiate level for his last season of eligibility remains probable.

As it stands, the frontrunner for the 6-foot-4 sharpshooter seems to be Iowa State, where his father is an assistant coach. But following Green on social media may signify that Duke basketball has a real chance to acquire his services next season.
