Duke basketball: Armando Bacot recruiting Blue Devil transfer to UNC
Armando Bacot is trying to get a former Duke basketball player to transfer to UNC.
Can you possibly imagine a player transferring from the Duke basketball program to North Carolina? Or vice versa?
Well, not only is Armando Bacot trying to get a former Blue Devil to become a Tar Heel, but he is trying to get Michael Savarino, Mike Krzyzewski’s grandson, to make the trip to Chapel Hill.
It was reported earlier in the week that Savarino, a Duke walk-on turned scholarship player, would be entering the transfer portal upon his graduation, and he confirmed that later Tuesday night on social media.
It did not take long for the Tar Heel star to make his pitch to the former Blue Devil.
Armando Bacot and Michael Savarino are good friends and hang out often, Bacot admitted earlier this month on the Barstool Bench Mob podcast.
“I’m really good friends with his grandson, too, [Michael] Savarino. We actually hang like out all the time, like literally, all the time, so, and a lot of people don’t know that,” Bacot said when asked about Mike Krzyzewski and Duke.

Duke was involved in the recruitment of the Richmond, Virginia native after he listed a final five schools of the Blue Devils, Tar Heels, Georgia, Oklahoma State, and VCU.
Krzyzewski ended up with Vernon Carey Jr., the No. 6 overall recruit, over Armando Bacot, the No. 27 overall recruit, in the Class of 2019.
Armando Bacot has long history with Duke basketball program
The recruiting stories and friendship with Michael Savarino do not tell the full story of the history between Armando Bacot and the Blue Devils as the forward admitted he grew up a Duke fan.
“You know, funny story — I went to Coach K’s camp. So, I grew up, maybe a Duke fan. But I got to meet both coaches [Mike Krzyzewski and Roy Williams], and I mean, Coach K, he’s an unbelievable guy,” Bacot continued on the podcast.

Now, the North Carolina center is forever engrained in the Duke vs. North Carolina rivalry after he led the Tar Heels to victories over the Blue Devils in Coach K’s final game in Cameron Indoor Stadium and in the only Final Four meeting between the two programs, which ended up being the final game in the career of Krzyzewski.
Do not expect Michael Savarino to end up at North Carolina, for a variety of reasons, but expect Armando Bacot to continue to troll and torment Duke fans this entire offseason.
