Ideal Duke basketball transfer target: Johni Broome (F – Morehead State)

A very intriguing name that Duke basketball has been linked to in the portal is Johni Broome.

The 6-foot-10 forward out of Morehead State was an absolute beast for the Eagles this past season, averaging a double-double to the tune of 16.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

While no chatter linked the Blue Devils with Broome early on, they landed among his eight finalists despite no reported Duke offer.

Broome’s list also includes Auburn, Florida, Gonzaga, Houston, Kentucky, Louisville, and Memphis.

The Ohio Valley Defensive Player of the Year would be a great addition to the Duke roster, but his interest in the Blue Devils remains a bit puzzling.

Duke basketball is already bringing in two top big men in Dereck Lively II and Kyle Filipowski in the 2022 class. If Broome decided to head to Durham, he would likely have a role similar to the one Theo John played this past season.

So a big question remains for any big-name transfer such as Broome: would they be willing to come off the bench for a national title contender?

If Duke basketball pursued Broome, it would give the Blue Devils much-needed size off the bench plus a potential long-term option as Broome still holds three years of eligibility.
