Projected Duke basketball starter: Dariq Whitehead

Montverde (Fla.) small forward Dariq Whitehead will arrive in Durham this summer as arguably the headline piece of an epic recruiting class, even though he ranks below two others. The 6-foot-6 five-star, who sits No. 5 overall on the 247Sports 2022 Composite, added to his trophy case by winning Naismith Boys’ High School Player of the Year and McDonald’s All-American Game MVP.

Whitehead has a driving game advanced beyond his years. And the same goes for his self-assured demeanor under bright lights with the ball in his hands — fresh off leading Montverde to its second consecutive GEICO Nationals title.

Furthermore, his outside shooting stroke sure looked polished in his most recent appearances on the national stage.
