Future Duke basketball star Mark Mitchell

  • 19 points, three rebounds

Despite a 24-point blowout loss, Mark Mitchell was the star for the West squad.

The 6-foot-8 forward tied for the game-high in scoring, finishing with 19 points. He added three rebounds as well.

Mitchell, who was one of the later commitments of Scheyer’s 2022 class, showed his offensive prowess from all over the floor. He hit multiple threes late in the game and consistently attacked the rim.

He also showed incredible effort and heart despite his team’s blowout loss. Mitchell’s great work ethic and ability to make smart decisions on the floor have long been considered strengths of his game.

With Duke likely losing a lot of talent at the wing position to the draft, Mitchell will be a welcome addition to the roster next season and will certainly have a large impact.

Whitehead, Lively, and Mitchell, alongside Filipowski, will be a big part of Jon Scheyer’s inaugural class, but they aren’t alone. Yorkville Christian (Ill.) four-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt (No. 60 on the 247Sports 2022 Composite) and Oak Hill (Va.) three-star center Christian Reeves (No. 167) will join the four five-stars in Durham.

Scheyer and the Blue Devils boast the No. 1 recruiting class in 2022, according to the 247Sports 2022 Team Rankings.
