Duke basketball recruiting: Blue Devils pick up yet another five-star pick
By Matt Giles
Duke basketball appears in the driver’s seat for a popular sharpshooter.
On Monday night, as part of an official visit to Durham, Centennial (Calif.) junior Jared Mccain was in attendance to watch the Duke basketball team host the Virginia Cavaliers. Despite seeing the No. 7 Duke Blue Devils fall to the unranked Cavaliers in the final seconds, growing chatter points to head coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer and his gang as the outright leader in the chase.

More encouraging Duke basketball recruiting news on the horizon?
Jared Mccain is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound smooth shooting guard who seems to thrive via his positive vibes, sturdy base, and bucket-getting mentality. The TikTok sensation — his innovative dance videos have already attracted nearly a million followers — recently jumped to No. 23 overall on the 247Sports 2023 Composite.
Although Mccain has said he’s unlikely to choose a college destination before the fall, he’s also noted his intention to reveal his finalists in the next couple of months.
Duke remains atop the 247Sports 2023 Team Rankings with two verbal commits from the class: Oak Hill (Va.) five-star point guard Caleb Foster and Windermere (Fla.) four-star power forward Sean Stewart.
Meanwhile, the Blue Devils still have offers out to Mccain and six others: five-star power forward GG Jackson, four-star small forward Taylor Bowen, five-star small forward Matas Buzelis, five-star small forward JJ Taylor, five-star small forward Mackenzie Mgbako, and international combo guard Tyrese Proctor.
