Duke basketball might have just won over top UNC target
By Matt Giles
Reminder: Duke basketball is hosting a coveted 2023 forward right now.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball for Ridge View (S.C.) junior power forward GG Jackson still hasn’t budged from unanimously favoring the UNC basketball staff. But within the next week, it wouldn’t be a surprise if a few experts predict the 6-foot-8, 210-pound aggressive five-star to become yet another high-profile Duke basketball recruiting prize.
Jackson, who recently jumped to No. 8 overall on the 247Sports 2023 Composite, is in Durham this weekend on his official visit. He was in attendance to watch the Blue Devils blow out the visiting Syracuse Orange, 79-59, on Saturday afternoon.

At one point in the game, Jackson stood among the Cameron Crazies and next to recent Blue Devil pledge Sean Stewart, a four-star 2023 power forward who now ranks No. 28 in the class and is also in the midst of a Duke visit. Judging from their grins in various pictures, it appears Jackson and Stewart both thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
An insider tweet possibly referring to Duke basketball recruiting
Hours after the game, SI.com national recruiting insider Jason Jordan tweeted this reminder: “An official visit can change it all.”
Now, it’s unclear whether Jordan’s tweet was just a random thought or perhaps in regards to some big-name recruit on a visit elsewhere. Either way, it’s a thought worth remembering these days in the GG Jackson sweepstakes.
GG Jackson recently revealed his plans to announce finalists in the coming months then potentially declare a winner in the spring.
Meanwhile, the Blue Devils remain atop the 247Sports Team Rankings for the 2023 class with commitments from Sean Stewart and five-star point guard Caleb Foster.
