Is Duke basketball’s 2022 recruiting class about to grow in size yet again?

There has been no official word of a Duke basketball offer to Oak Hill (Va.) three-star center Christian Reeves. However, as the 7-foot-1, 240-pound senior prepares to reveal his college choice at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday, which just so happens to coincide with the tipoff between the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils and the visiting South Carolina State Bulldogs, the rumors are swirling.

On Tuesday morning, 247Sports national recruiting insider Travis Branham became the first to enter a Crystal Ball prediction for Reeves, and it favors Duke with a “high” confidence level. Then over at Rivals a couple of hours later, national insiders Rob Cassidy and Jamie Shaw placed the first and still-only FutureCast picks, and they also point to the Blue Devils coming out on top.

Branham noted the following about the last-minute buzz in Reeves’ recruitment:

“Three schools are showing interest [Creighton, Minnesota, South Carolina], but could he catch everyone by surprise and land at a school no one expects?… There sounds to be another school in the shadows of this recruitment.”

Furthermore, Reeves confirmed to Branham that there is another suitor in the mix but without giving away whether the program in question is Duke:

“I can’t say right now.”

Meanwhile, what Reeves told Branham he is looking for in a destination seems to align perfectly with what the Blue Devils would provide:

“A place where I can get better, good academics, and those are the main two things, and then everything else I will take it as it comes.”

What the addition of Christian Reeves could mean for Duke basketball

Christian Reeves, a North Carolina native who ranks No. 243 overall on the 247Sports 2022 Composite and might become a long-term project in Durham, is a teammate at Oak Hill to Duke’s only 2023 pledge to date, five-star point guard Caleb Foster.

Adding intrigue to the Blue Devils’ potential commitment from Reeves is the ongoing chatter and hints across social media suggesting Foster may soon announce a move to 2022.
