Duke basketball takeaways in victory over Gonzaga:

Wendell Moore is Duke’s captain

So that takeaway is a fact, but let’s explain.

In each of Duke’s recent championships, there has been a distinguished captain on the team.

It was Jon Scheyer in 2010 and Quinn Cook in 2015, and it looks like it could be Wendell Moore in 2021.

Moore is a leader on and off the floor for the Blue Devils in the early part of the season, and the improvements in his game on the court have been critically important to the success of Duke.

The junior forward, who already has a triple-double this season, went for 20 points, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals while only sitting two minutes in the victory.

Moore was also 6-of-10 from the floor and drilled some clutch free throws in the final minute.

Duke will not go as far as Wendell Moore’s play will take them. Rather, the Blue Devils will go as far as Wendell Moore leads them.
