5. Duke basketball guard Jeremy Roach

  • 9.0 points per game
  • 2.8 rebounds per game
  • 3.7 assists per game
  • 1.5 steals per game
  • 0.0 blocks per game
  • 1.8 turnovers per game
  • 21-for-50 from the field (42.0 percent)
  • 5-for-17 beyond the arc (29.4 percent)
  • 7-for-10 from the foul line (70.0 percent)
  • 33.0 minutes per game

Consistency is the keyword when it comes to the play of Jeremy Roach. No, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound sophomore doesn’t have it just yet, evident in the zero-point outing he recently sandwiched between his more encouraging outings. But he must find consistency this season if the Blue Devils plan to realize their loftiest goals, especially if he keeps averaging the most minutes on the team.

As it is, there stands a decent chance that the well-oiled Gonzaga backcourt will expose a few of Roach’s flaws on Friday night. On the other hand, the starting Duke basketball floor general out of Virginia has exhibited an ability to heat up as a perimeter bucket-getter then draw enough confidence from that to make quality decisions in orchestrating Duke’s offensive attack.
