9. Duke basketball forward Bates Jones

  • 2.3 points per game
  • 1.8 rebounds per game
  • 0.5 assists per game
  • 0.0 steals per game
  • 0.0 blocks per game
  • 0.0 turnovers per game
  • 3-for-5 from the field (60.0 percent)
  • 3-for-5 beyond the arc (60.0 percent)
  • 0-for-0 from the foul line
  • 6.5 minutes per game

If the Duke Blue Devils stay out of foul trouble while avoiding cramps and whatnot on Friday night, then Bates Jones probably won’t see many, or perhaps any, minutes. Still, the 6-foot-8, 220-pound grad transfer’s potential 3-point weapon is at least worth keeping an eye on should the team need to call on his services at any point.

On the other hand, the 10th-man’s heavy feet could prove a significant liability on the defensive end when trying to chase around a Chet Holmgren or Drew Timme. Also, while Jones has displayed a clean shooting stroke from downtown in the four games he has played as a Blue Devil, he may not possess the necessary quickness to get open or catch-and-shoot against the likes of the Zags.
