The 2023 Duke basketball haul may end up more potent than the 2022 version.

Duke basketball already boasts four 2022 pledges: four-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt, five-star small forward Dariq Whitehead, five-star power forward Kyle Filipowski, and five-star center Dereck Lively. Now, five-star small forward Mark Mitchell is eyeing a December announcement and might be the only undecided high school senior still considering the Duke Blue Devils.

Regardless, the collection remains No. 1 overall in the country, according to the 247Sports 2022 Team Rankings. Plus, consider that the Duke coaches have required only seven offers to reel in their four top-shelf prizes.

Therefore, head honcho-in-waiting Jon Scheyer and his gang appear to have the luxury of being all but finished with their 2022 recruiting efforts. While waiting for Mitchell to make up his mind, they may intend to fill any remaining holes on the 2022-23 roster with transfers in the spring — after the current undergraduate players in Durham reveal their stay-or-go decisions.

Meanwhile, the Blue Devil staff has started making waves with high school juniors earlier than usual in the recruiting cycle. As of last week’s two additions, the 2023 Duke basketball offer sheet consists of six names, all of the five-star variety. And one of them committed to Scheyer & Co. more than a month ago.

So despite this being earlier than usual for this type of article, let’s go ahead and forecast the entire 2023 Duke basketball class, one recruit at a time, beginning with a look at the one who is already verbally on board.
