Ranking each Duke basketball player in the Blue-White games

5. Evaluating Blue-White Duke basketball contributor Wendell Moore
Combined stats for Wendell Moore:
- 24 minutes
- 13 points
- 5-for-9 from the field, 1-for-2 from three, 2-for-2 from the foul line
- One rebound
- Two assists
- Two steals
- Zero blocks
- Four turnovers
On the opening possession of the first scrimmage, a more visibly confident Wendell Moore put the first points of the night on the board via a drained pull-up baseline jumper from about 15 feet. Then throughout both clashes, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound small forward — now a co-captain alongside Joey Baker — continued to look improved with his shot mechanics and shot selection.
Plus, Moore shined at times as a facilitator by delivering a few nice-find feeds into the post and by jumpstarting the halfcourt offense with whipped passes around the perimeter.
Overall, his undisputed leadership and jovial mood were on the list of the event’s most encouraging signs.
However, the Charlotte native sometimes slipped into the “younger-Moore mode.” That was the case when he fell while gearing up for a drive and when he struggled to keep his options open when barrelling toward the goal. In other words, there may still be times when the 20-year-old makes the same old discouraging mistakes from his first two campaigns in Durham.
