7. Evaluating Blue-White Duke basketball contributor Jeremy Roach

Combined stats for Jeremy Roach:

  • 24 minutes
  • Two points
  • 1-for-7 from the field, 0-for-2 from three
  • Five rebounds
  • Eight assists
  • Zero steals
  • Zero blocks
  • Two turnovers

Does this Duke basketball team have a genuinely proficient point guard? Unfortunately, the jury is still out regarding that concern following Countdown to Craziness.

Notably, the play of sophomore Jeremy Roach was arguably the most disappointing on Friday night. And that’s due to his former five-star rating as a prep and the hopes that he would drastically improve on a freshman campaign that was inconsistent and overall lackluster in appearance.

On the other hand, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound point guard’s cold shooting hand perhaps played an unfair part in making his entire performance appear worse than it was in reality. After all, a 4.0 assist-to-turnover ratio is something that fans, coaches, and teammates would surely welcome on a nightly basis from Roach.

Yet despite the blowout by his Team White in the second scrimmage, Roach was too often invisible on the court. Instead, the Virginia native’s former high school teammate, freshman Trevor Keels, and a couple of other upcoming names on this list ultimately fueled that victory.
