The Duke basketball program is close to adding another Top-40 recruit.

Jon Scheyer continues to prove that the Duke basketball program is in great hands in the post-Mike Krzyzewski era.

Scheyer has already landed three big-time prospects since being named as the head coach-in-waiting, five-star Dariq Whitehead, five-star Kyle Filipowski, and four-star Jaden Schutt.

However, the Blue Devils are inching closer to possibly landing yet another four-star recruit.

JJ Starling released his Top-5 schools on Thursday night, which include Duke, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Stanford, and Northwestern.

Starling, a Baldwinsville, New York native, is ranked as the No. 35 player in the Class of 2022 as well as the No. 6 combo guard in his class and the No. 2 player in the state of New York, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard currently stars at La Lumiere High School (Ind.) and will be taking an official visit to Duke from September 24-26.

Starling has already taken visits to Syracuse, Stanford, and Notre Dame and will visit Northwestern and Stanford in the weeks prior to visiting Durham.

Duke basketball recruiting target spill the beans on the Blue Devils

It seems as if the Blue Devils have the inside track to landing the Top-40 player, according to Starling in his most recent interview with Tipton Edits.

“I’ve heard from every school, whether it’s guys on the team or the commits but I’m not gonna lie, the most I’ve heard from is Duke,” Starling explained on which of his five finalists he hears from the most.

“I’m cool with Kyle (Filipowski), I’m cool with Dariq (Whitehead). We’ve been playing against each other for so long. We see each other all the time…they’re always going to be like ‘come to Duke, come to Duke, come team up’ and stuff like that. So yeah, I’d definitely say the Duke commits.”

JJ Starling said he is targeting a commitment date in October but no official announcement date is set.

There is just one 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction logged for Starling, but it is for Duke, albeit with a 5-out-of-10 confidence ranking.

Perhaps he will commit to Jon Scheyer in private after his official visit with the Blue Devils.
