A top-notch 2023 prep may be Duke basketball’s floor general of the future.
Earlier this week, Oak Hill (Va.) rising junior Caleb Foster announced finalists in his recruitment, becoming the first 2023 Duke basketball target to put out such a list.
Judging from the five-star point guard’s North Carolina roots and admitted lifelong Blue Devil fandom, it was no surprise that the Duke Blue Devils advanced to the next round, along with Auburn, Charlotte, Clemson, Louisville, Stanford, Virginia, and Wake Forest.
Plus, consider that Nolan Smith — Duke’s lead recruiter for Foster, according to 247Sports — was an Oak Hill guard himself who then went on to win the 2010 national championship as a Blue Devil.
Predictions painting the Duke basketball recruiters as clear frontrunners
In the days that have passed since the unveiling of his eight favorites, a third 247Sports Crystal Ball pick has popped up in favor of the Blue Devils, representing the only Caleb Foster forecasts on that site to date. However, it’s worth noting that all three are from Duke basketball insiders.
Even so, over at Rivals, the FutureCast is unanimous as well, with now two experts expecting the 6-foot-5, 190-pound smooth operator to play his college ball in Durham.

Foster, who ranks No. 14 overall on the 247Sports 2023 Composite and exhibits a knack for singlehandedly controlling the pace of games, has not provided a definitive timeline for choosing a winner in the race. But he has mentioned that he’d like to take some official visits in the fall.
Duke’s 2023 offer sheet also includes five-star small forward Mackenzie Mgbako, five-star small forward JJ Taylor, and five-star power forward Greg Jackson. Thus far, no one from the class has committed to the Blue Devils.
