Duke basketball is hoping to stay in the mix for another five-star forward.

Spider arms to go along with a myriad of smooth moves. That’s Sunrise Christian (Kan.) five-star Mark Mitchell, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound small forward who ranks No. 10 overall on the 247Sports 2022 Composite and sits at the center of the Duke basketball recruiting radar.

On Tuesday, Mitchell announced on Twitter that he plans to name finalists in his recruitment this weekend. However, he did not specify an exact time for the list or how many schools it will include.

Will the Duke basketball program appear on Mark Mitchell’s list?

Mitchell took an official visit to Duke in late June. And the lone 247Sports Crystal Ball pick continues to predict the staff in Durham will come out on top.

So it seems pretty safe to say that the Blue Devils will survive the upcoming cuts.

On the other hand, some recent chatter among insiders suggests Mitchell might be eyeing other plans elsewhere.

After all, in building his first class as Duke basketball head coach to follow Mike Krzyzewski’s preplanned spring retirement, Jon Scheyer has already snagged a commitment from five-star small forward Dariq Whitehead. That’s not to mention four-star power forward Kyle Filipowski.

UCLA and Kansas each hosted Mitchell in June as well. With that in mind, one would think they will remain among his favorites alongside the Blue Devils. Meanwhile, the high-profile recruit has hinted on several occasions that a final decision is unlikely to arrive until perhaps the winter.

Four more undecided 2022 prospects are still weighing their Duke offers. They are five-star center Dereck Lively, four-star combo guard Anthony Black, four-star point guard JJ Starling, and three-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt. Of those, only Lively has put out a list of finalists.
