Duke basketball is among the top pursuers for arguably the top 2022 sniper.

Two weeks ago, Duke basketball head coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer extended an offer to Yorkville Christian (Ill.) rising senior Jaden Schutt.

Currently, the three-star shooting guard ranks No. 169 overall on the 247Sports 2022 Composite. But after displaying his prolific stroke while helping his Illinois Wolves AAU squad go 16-1 in July to win the Under Armour Association 17U title, Schutt’s rating and ranking should be in line for a significant bump.

Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports confirmed as much with this simple assessment:

"“[Schutt] proved himself to be one of the best shooters in the high school game.”"

Jaden Schutt regularly hearing from Duke basketball recruiters

This week, the 6-foot-5, 180-pound sharpshooter told Stock Risers recruiting insider Jake Weingarten that Duke is one of five schools “heavily involved” in his recruitment. The other four are Florida, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan State.

Here’s what Schutt said about Scheyer, who also hails from the Chicago area, and the Blue Devils:

"“Coach Scheyer has just said how he likes my game and the energy I play with and how I can shoot the ball at a high level. It’s definitely an honor to have a top program across the nation offer.”"

Duke’s 2022 offer sheet consists of Schutt plus six others:

  • Westtown (Pa.) five-star center Dereck Lively
  • Montverde (Fla.) five-star small forward Dariq Whitehead
  • Sunrise Christian (Kan.) five-star small forward Mark Mitchell
  • Wilbraham & Monson (Mass.) four-star power forward Kyle Filipowski
  • Coppell (Texas) four-star combo guard Anthony Black
  • La Lumiere (Ind.) four-star point guard JJ Starling

At this juncture, the Blue Devils hold no commitments from the class.

However, Scheyer and his crew appear in the driver’s seat to land their first 2022 pledge when Whitehead announces his decision on Sunday.
