Duke basketball recruiting target says official visit ‘felt natural’
By Matt Giles
Duke basketball still looks to be the favorite for one elite power forward.
Roughly two weeks removed from his Duke basketball official visit, Wilbraham & Monson (Mass.) rising senior Kyle Filipowski seems to fully appreciate the offer he received while in town. The complete-package stretch-four implied as much over the weekend when speaking to 247Sports recruiting insider Dushawn London:
“It’s something special to get that offer because they don’t just go around offering anybody they see. They do a background check and evaluate you very hard, so getting that offer meant something. I have a great relationship with [head coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer].”
Filipowski, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound four-star who has seen his ranking soar more than 100 spots in the past year to No. 33 overall on the recently updated 247Sports 2022 Composite, continued speaking highly of the Blue Devils by appearing to recount an at-home feel in Durham:
“The visit was awesome too. I got to play with the guys there as well, see everything just like my other visits, so it was a good time. Playing with them was good as well; it felt natural, no nerves, no hesitancy, so it was a lot of fun.”
Duke basketball leading the race, perhaps
Ever since Kyle Filipowski returned from his trip to Blue Devil land, both the 247Sports Crystal Ball and Rivals FutureCast have presented Duke as the suitor to beat in the hunt for the smooth prospect’s services.

However, Filipowski has not yet named any finalists. According to his chat with London, though, he intends to do so within the next few weeks and then ultimately decide on a college at some point before his senior season tips off in the fall.
Meanwhile, Kyle Filipowski’s list of offers continues to grow both in its count and blueblood amount, notably with new UNC head coach Hubert Davis placing the Tar Heels in the mix last week.
Duke is pursuing six more 2022 recruits: Westtown (Pa.) five-star center Dereck Lively, Sunrise Christian (Kan.) five-star small forward Mark Mitchell, Montverde (Fla.) five-star small forward Dariq Whitehead, Yorkville Christian (Ill.) three-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt, Coppell (Texas) four-star combo guard Anthony Black, and La Lumiere (Ind.) four-star point guard JJ Starling.
