Duke basketball: Intense power forward receives Blue Devil offer
By Matt Giles
The Duke basketball recruiters are now in the mix for a forceful playmaker.
After taking an unofficial visit to the campus in Durham on Monday, Ridge View (S.C.) power forward Greg Jackson — aka GG Jackson — added to the recent swarm of Duke basketball recruiting news by announcing on social media that he has landed an offer from the Blue Devils.
Jackson is a 6-foot-9, 210-pound four-star and currently ranks No. 30 overall on the 247Sports 2023 Composite. His growing list of offers also already includes a few of Duke’s closest ACC neighbors: NC State, UNC, and Wake Forest.
Boston College, Clemson, High Point, LSU, Pitt, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech have each reportedly entered the race as well.
All of Jackson’s Tobacco Road offers have come within a week of college coaches having the go-ahead to directly reach out to 2023 recruits. Presumably, the invite to become a Blue Devil arrived during his visit and directly from Jon Scheyer, who is set to assume the Duke throne after Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski retires next spring.
A scout’s take on Duke basketball recruiting prospect Greg Jackson
In early May, after watching Greg Jackson compete against several elite preps at the KC Classic in Kansas City, 247Sports recruiting expert Travis Branham provided the following evaluation:
"“Jackson possesses very good size and length for a power forward prospect at this stage of his development…The four-star prospect is mobile, runs the floor, plays with a motor, has bounce, and is quick off his feet. He possesses very good hands, touch…[He] showcased his budding face-up game, all the while dominating on the boards.”"
Yes, judging from Jackson’s high-octane highlights, the coaches in Durham must have taken a liking to the rising high school junior’s long limbs, impressive hops, and relentless aggression while on the floor.
Outside of Greg Jackson, only two others boast offers from the Blue Devils at this early stage in the 2023 cycle. Both of those official targets are small forwards in Kenwood (Ill.) five-star JJ Taylor and Gill St. Bernard’s (N.J.) five-star Mackenzie Mgbako.
