Cameron Indoor Stadium already loves Duke basketball newbie Paolo Banchero.

As of Monday, Duke basketball freshman Paolo Banchero believes he now likely owns an unofficial Cameron Indoor Stadium record.

And keep in mind that the 6-foot-10, 250-pound five-star power forward out of Seattle has been on campus all of a few weeks.

The program’s social media team did not offer any evidence to the contrary. Rather, via the following tweet and replay, the Blue Devils implied that Banchero’s full-court heave is the longest made shot from floor level in the revered building’s 81-year-old history.

Was it truly the longest splash inside Duke basketball heaven?

If anyone knows of one from a greater distance and without an aerial advantage, whether it came in a game back before television or perhaps during some Duke basketball camp session, then they should feel free to speak up. Thus far, though, it doesn’t seem as if fans can recall any.

So for now, Paolo Banchero, who shined at quarterback in his first year of high school, will just have to hold the title.

That said, there does come to mind this impressive collection of trick shots inside Cameron Indoor Stadium:

Just watch the above video, which the Blue Devils posted in November 2010. In it, 2010 national champ Kyle Singler splashed “The Mrs. K shot” plus “The Coach K shot” in addition to the bounced-in “Dick Vitale shot” — all denoting whose seats the legendary stretch-four Blue Devil was either standing at or sitting in when he drained the attempts.

Try those, Paolo.

Three more rookies are now in Durham alongside Paolo Banchero. They are five-star small forward AJ Griffin, five-star shooting guard Trevor Keels, and four-star point guard Jaylen Blakes. Altogether, the class ranks No. 4 in the country, marking Duke’s eighth consecutive top-five haul.
