Ranking Duke basketball’s 14 recruiting prospects from 2023 class
By Matt Giles
13. Duke basketball recruiting prospect Bronny James
- Shooting guard
- 6-foot-2, 170 pounds
- No. 28 overall on the 247Sports 2023 Composite
Sierra Canyon (Calif.) four-star shooting guard Bronny James, who is the namesake son of NBA legend LeBron James, missed most of his sophomore campaign while recovering from surgery on a torn meniscus. But he’s now back in action and has exhibited loads of potential on the court.
Last week, Sports Talk 2319 prospect specialist Rashad Phillips provided the following assessment of Bronny James and earned praise from LeBron James for giving his son such a firm seal of approval:
"“He excels in open court and also has a good feel on offense. He’s a streaky but confident shooter. He’s actually good…Bronny James has tremendous defensive timing, strength, and awareness. His jump shot mechanics look good from the rotation of the ball to his release point. Powerful upper body for a 6-foot-4 kid and quick feet. The kid can play.”"
James does not yet hold any college offers, per 247Sports. And there have been no reports of Jon Scheyer & Co. directly contacting the 16-year-old.
That said, the lone pick inside the Crystal Ball for James pegs the Duke basketball program as the frontrunner. This, of course, makes some sense given the fact he sometimes sports Blue Devil apparel in public, not to mention his dad’s past praise for Mike Krzyzewski and the powerhouse program that the Hall of Famer has constructed in Durham.
