A heralded backcourt weapon now appears on the Duke basketball offer sheet.

Amid the hubbub on Tuesday surrounding college coaches’ first permitted opportunity to directly contact 2023 prospects, news of a third 2022 Duke basketball offer perhaps went a tad under the radar.

Nevertheless, according to Pro Insight director of scouting Andrew Slater, La Lumiere (Ind.) point guard JJ Starling has indeed landed on Duke’s wishlist.

The 6-foot-4 four-star from New York ranks No. 55 overall on the 247Sports 2022 Composite, largely due to a quick-release 3-point stroke to go along with his snazzy handles and athletic versatility. Around this time last year, Ball Durham named Starling as one of the three most intriguing recruits the Blue Devils had reached out to by that early juncture in the 2022 cycle.

Currently, Starling’s offer count is not yet through the roof. However, per Rivals, several other ACC schools are on the list, including Notre Dame, Wake Forest, and Syracuse.

A growing Duke basketball offer sheet

JJ Starling, who has recently bulked up to a reported 200 pounds, is now the third player in his class to receive an offer from Jon Scheyer in the two weeks since Mike Krzyzewski announced that the 33-year-old will succeed him as head coach next spring. Montverde (Fla.) five-star small forward Dariq Whitehead and Westtown (Pa.) four-star center Dereck Lively are the other two.
