Sizing up suitors in key Duke basketball recruiting race: No. 3 Georgetown
There’s no denying that Georgetown basketball head coach Patrick Ewing, who is entering his fifth season at the helm of his alma mater with a 62-59 overall record, has been picking up steam on the recruiting trail as of late.
The 58-year-old former NBA legend has already reeled in one five-star in the form of shooting guard Aminu Mohammed, who ranks No. 21 among his peers. Plus, Ewing and his staff are adding four recruits who rank between No. 112 and No. 201 on the 247Sports 2021 Composite, including the son of Dikembe Mutombo in 6-foot-11, 235-pound center Ryan Mutombo.
Altogether, the Hoyas’ haul currently ranks No. 13 in the country, per the 247Sports Class Rankings. With a commitment from Patrick Baldwin Jr., they’d instantly jump to No. 4 overall and give their fanbase some serious goosebumps about the 2021-22 campaign considering the program is also returning a few role players and welcoming two solid transfers.
And judging from all the hype in April from recruiting insiders that points to Georgetown being a bonafide threat, one has to wonder if this no longer just a two-horse race between Duke and Milwaukee. However, at this point, no Crystal Ball picks have ever popped up predicting Ewing to win the Baldwin sweepstakes.
The perceived probability that Patrick Baldwin Jr. picks Georgetown? 10 percent.
